Every entry names the lens we used, the conditions around the work and the uncertainty left in view.

Prototype controller and materials used for interface experiments

Input before interface: an encounter with useful resistance.

Some of the best controller experiments do not ask for more buttons. They edit the possibility space down until a player can feel the consequence of each gesture.

Our review follows this approach through a month of small prototypes: how physical cues establish memory, why immediate feedback does not have to be loud, and where accessibility asks the designer to leave room for alternatives.

Craft

Methods worth keeping in the margins.

Small observations from the workbench.

Prototype weather is not a phase to rush through.

The point of an early build is not to make the future inevitable. It is to find the questions a finished interface might otherwise hide.

Version control is a form of group memory.

Good collaboration tools reveal a project’s changing mind. The useful ones make revision visible without treating it as failure.

Culture

Testing rooms should make unfinished things feel safe.

A playtest works when the people in the room understand that their response is a material, not a score. The timer merely helps us notice where attention moves.
